Teacher Aide

Location: Fort Plain Central School District
Salary: $15.00/hour

Part- and full-time positions available.

This work involves responsibility for the performance of routine classroom duties and non-professional tasks to assist teachers in the classroom. A Teacher Aide works under the general supervision of a teacher or the principal.

Typical Duties (Illustrative Only):

  • Attends to physical needs of students and/or assists students with special needs;
  • Keeps simple records such as recording grades or completion of homework assignments, as
    directed by teacher;
  • Assists teacher in routine classroom preparation duties, such as making student folders,
    making charts, schedules, posters, and bulletin boards at the direction of teacher;
  • Helps teacher to set up classroom by distributing and/or gathering materials and setting up
    equipment;
  • Assists teachers in demonstrating the proper use of vocational tools and equipment;
  • Corrects standardized objective tests;
  • Supervises and monitors class when teacher is out of room;
  • Relieves teacher of study hall, corridor, lunchroom, and other monitorial duties;
  • Escorts students to and from buses, classrooms, bathroom and lunchroom;
  • May accompany students during transportation to assist with student management in an effort to insure a safe transport.
  • Helps maintain discipline and structure within the classroom.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma.

Bus Driver – Full Time

Location: Fort Plain Central School District
Salary: $18.61/hour

This is a full time position (8 hours/12 months) with full benefits.

Duties (Illustrative Only):

  • Responsibility for driving a school bus, minivan or other school vehicle on an assigned route.
  • Responsibility for the safe transfer of school children and maintaining discipline on the bus.
  • Bus drivers may be expected to perform minor maintenance tasks on various vehicles. The work is performed under general supervision.

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years of experience in the operation of automotive equipment.

Special Requirement:

  • Possession of Commercial Driver’s License with an “S” endorsement at the time of appointment.
  • Drivers must be at least 21 years of age.

Head Building Maintenance Worker

Location: Fort Plain Central School District
Salary: $22.40/hour

This is a full time position (8 hours/12 months) with full benefits.

Duties (Illustrative Only):

  • Responsibility for the efficient operation and upkeep of buildings and grounds.
  • Work of this position is performed under the general direction from the Director of Facilities, allowing considerable leeway for the use of independent judgment on specific assignments.
  • Immediate supervision over maintenance and cleaning personnel.

Minimum Qualifications:

Three years of experience in either general building construction or maintenance work in one or more of the standard trades, such as carpentry, plumbing, or electrical, six months of which shall have involved supervisory responsibility.

Special Requirement:

Possession of a clean, valid New York State driver’s license which must be maintained throughout course of employment.

Jr./Sr. High School Principal—next steps

A message to the Fort Plain community from District Superintendent Lauren Crisman

Dear Students, Parents and Caregivers,

I hope you each enjoyed a wonderful December vacation!

To welcome the new year, I write to inform you about the district’s plan to address the vacancy of the Jr./Sr. High School Principal. Read about the retirement of Dr. Deborah Larrabee. 

The position of Jr./Sr. High School Principal has been posted to several recruitment platforms. We intend to conduct interviews during the third marking period. The district is committed to finding the best candidate to be the new building-level leader. View the posting and description of the Jr./Sr. High School Principal position.

Through January 26, the duties associated with the role of the building principal will be covered by the members of our existing administrative team. Mrs. Canallatos will provide instructional leadership support; Mrs. Coppolo will assist both buildings as the Testing Coordinator for NYS Assessments in Grades 3-8. Mr. Bertram will provide on site leadership to implement the day to day operations associated with running the Jr./Sr. High School and provide student conduct support.

It is the district’s hope to secure an Interim Principal by the start of the second semester to provide building-level leadership during the third marking period and possibly until the end of the year, if deemed necessary.

Fort Plain CSD is seeking a certified, experienced administrator to serve as the next Jr./Sr. High School Principal.

The successful candidate will have experience in team-building and creating a positive, respectful school culture; possess excellent communication skills and value collaboration.

The candidate must demonstrate proficiency with regard to the use of technology and analyzing data.

Required Qualification:

Candidates must hold a NYS School Building Leader Certification.

Start Date: 

Anticipated start date in Spring of 2024, to be negotiated upon hire.

Salary Range:  

Starting salary will be negotiated based on professional experience.  The Fort Plain Administrators’ Association offers a competitive benefits package.

These are 10-month positions, with a starting rate of pay at $14.20 per hour.

The work of the employee in this class involves, but is not limited to:

  • routine classroom duties,
  • supervising students in various locations and
    settings,
  • monitoring students on the school bus and other related non-instructional tasks.

Specific tasks may vary depending on the assignment.

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalency
