Physical Education

Hello, everyone! Welcome to Physical Education. We have a fun and evolving curriculum to meet the needs of all of our students. We are very excited about our lessons and units. Please remember to wear your sneakers and appropriate clothing to classes that allow for safe, maximum movement and engagement. Let’s get moving!

Personal Health and Fitness

Students will have the necessary knowledge and skills to establish and maintain physical fitness, participate in physical activity, and maintain personal health.  

A Safe and Healthy Environment

Students will acquire the knowledge and ability necessary to create and maintain a safe and healthy environment.

Resource Management

Students will understand and be able to manage their personal and community resources.

National Standards

  1. The physically literate individual demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.
  2. The physically literate individual applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies and tactics related to movement and performance.
  3. The physically literate individual demonstrates the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness.
  4. The physically literate individual exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others.
  5. The physically literate individual recognizes the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and/or social interaction.

Physical Education Electives

STRENGTH IN MOTION
A class focused on nontraditional physical education movement. This class is a noncompetitive, no physical contact class that includes biking, HIIT workouts, stretching, yoga and mediation.

No prerequisites. One semester, For all fitness levels, Open to grades 10-12.

FOUNDATIONS OF FITNESS
This class focuses on the safety and proper use of the fitness center. Students will:

  • become familiar with all pieces of equipment in the weight room and how to correctly and safely use them
  • become familiar with weight room etiquette (wiping down machines after use, encouraging others, spotting others etc)
  • develop the understanding of the FITT principle and learn about the five components of fitness.
  • each month, write up and execute a different fitness goal based on one of the five components of fitness.

Students’ fitness goals must follow SMART goal guidelines. Their nine-day workout plans must include a warm up, workout and cool down for each day.

Students will engage in self-weighted exercises, machine weighted exercises, use flexibility bands, cardio machines and much more. This class requires a good amount of self motivation.

This class is a prerequisite for advanced weight training. One semester. For all fitness levels. Open to grades 10-12.

ADVANCED FITNESS

Students must have taken and passed Foundations of Fitness in order to be enrolled in this class. Students will:
  • Use knowledge gained from Foundations of Fitness and apply it to this class.
  • create an individualized fitness goal which they will be working towards for the entire semester (this singular goal must follow SMART goal guidelines and the semester long work out plan but include a warm up, workout, and cool down for each day.)
This class allows more personal freedom than Foundations of Fitness and due to this self motivation and drive is of utmost importance.
Foundations of Fitness is the prerequisite for this course. One semester. For moderately fit and above. Open to grades 10-12.
