Board of Education Goals and Objectives

The Fort Plain Central School District Board of Education has identified five enduring goals:

  • Improve safety in our schools.
  • Improve student learning outcomes.
  • Build and maintain trusting relationships with students and their families.
  • Support social and emotional wellness for all school community members.
  • Ensure responsible and strategic use of fiscal and human resources to best support the needs of our students.

For the 2024-2025 school year, the Board has written objectives to define measurable actions to support achievement of the goals.

Improve safety in our schools

Objectives:

  • Update school safety plans.
  • Successfully implement the School Resource Officer Program.
  • Provide all faculty and staff with ALICE Training.
  • Implement the use of the Mobile Security App.
  • Provide students with learning that focuses on the topics of bias, inclusion, allyship and tolerance.
  • Hold monthly Safety Committee Meetings to review best practices related to school safety.

Improve student learning outcomes

Objectives:

  • Provide all faculty with professional development to increase their effective use of technology resources.
  • Provide literacy teachers in K- 4 with professional development on the Science of Reading in consultation with the Reading League.
  • Develop and/or enhance student intervention systems in both buildings:
    • Implement Tier Time initiative at Harry Hoag
    • Implement new AIS model in grades 9-12 at the Jr./Sr. High
  • Conduct a comprehensive review of benchmarking and screening tools used to monitor student achievement in grades K-8.
  • Implement the Pass Program to increase student achievement and promote the development of Scholar- Athletes as defined by NYSPHSAA .
  • Work with department coordinators at the Jr./Sr. High School to create a universal system to monitor student performance in core classes at the Jr./Sr. High School. Data points to consider:
    • 5 week progress reports.
    • Quarterly achievement data.
    • Interim assessments (recommendations from department coordinators.)

Build and maintain trusting relationships with students and their families

Objectives:

  • Each grade level or department will implement a family engagement component once during the year.
  • Improve communication by responding to student or parent concerns within a 24-hour time period, Monday through Friday.
  • Analyze data to monitor student participation in athletics and extracurricular activities and participation in school events. Data points to consider:
    • Number of participants,
    • Demographics.
    • Time of day offered.
    • Transportation available, etc.

Support social and emotional wellness for all school community members

Objectives:

  • Update School Counseling Plan.
  • Provide faculty with adult learning experiences.
  • Host a fall Athletic, Extracurricular and Community Resources Engagement Fair.
  • Host a Health and Wellness Fair at the Jr./Sr. High School.

Ensure responsible and strategic use of fiscal and human resources to be best support the needs of our students

Objectives:

  • Create a Game Day management guide.
  • Create daily checklists by shift for cleaners.
  • Update Fort Plain’s Advisors’ Handbook and Faculty Handbook.
  • Design a fiscally responsible budget.
  • Conduct a feasibility study to explore a possible merger with Canajoharie CSD.
