Top ten students of Class of 2011

 Nolan Reese, Maisie Orsillo head this year's graduating class

              Junior/Senior High School Principal Deborah Larrabee has announced the names of the top ten students of the Fort Plain High School Class of 2010 as follows. Note: After valedictorian and salutatorian, students are listed in alphabetical order, not class rank.

 Photo of Nolan ReeseValedictorian Nolan Reese, son of Cheryl and Bryan Reese, has been Students Against Destructive Decisions president, Class of 2011 president, Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council President, student representative to the Board of Education, Yearbook business editor, and a peer mentor. He has participated in concert band, jazz band, marching band, all-county band, varsity golf varsity bowling and baseball. His awards and honors include Stop DWI Scholarship, Best 5-year Average in Math, Best 4-year Average in Science, DAR Good Citizen Award, Permanent Principal’s List, Highest score on Math/Science Regents, Jazz Band Award, and Senior Excelling in Band Award. Outside of school, he is an active member of the Reformed Church of America and works at Iroquois Lanes. Nolan will attend Cornell University to major in human biology, health, and society.

  Photo of Maisie Orsillo   Salutatorian Maisie Orsillo, daughter of Michael and Doreen Orsillo, has been Library Club president, SADD secretary, class of 2011 secretary, Yearbook business editor, a peer mentor, Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council vice president, alternate Board of Education representative, and National Honor Society president. She has also participated in chorus, band, jazz band, Harmony, marching band, all-county chorus, 4-H, dance, drama Club, Be the Change, and Child Nutrition Advisory Committee. Her awards and honors include Student of the Month, Permanent Principal’s List, Soroptimist International Citizenship Award, Dell Scholarship recipient, Wal-Mart Community Scholarship, Board of Education Award, Jennifer Freeman Memorial 4-H Scholarship, Larry Blake Memorial Award, Outstanding Achievement in English, Spanish and Science, Stephen V. Bilins Science Award, Senior Student of the Year, Valley Choraliers Award, Jesse B. Harmon Award for Excellence in band/jazz band award. Outside of school she is a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, where she teaches Sunday school, a Comfort Zone volunteer, and a Manna House meals volunteer. Maise will attend Cornell University to major in human biology, health and society.

Marybeth Allen, daughter of Barbara and John Allen, has been involved in 4-H, the peer mentor program, National Honor Society, band, and Library Club. She will attend Morrisville State College as a pre-vet / equine science major.

       

 

 MichPhoto of Mike Countrymanael D. Countryman, son of David and Martha Countryman, has been involved in National Honor Society, OK2XL, independent chorus, and Manna House meals program. His awards and honors include Excellence in Chorus Award, 90+ average for four years, Spanish 5 Award, Frederick Douglas / Susan B. Anthony Award, Principal’s List, and Academic Excellence Award. Countryman will attend Fulton Montgomery Community College as an education major.

 Tina Goldswer, daughter of Martha Goldswer, has been involved in chorus, area all-state, Harmony, Mock Trial, National Honor Society, Library Club, Battle of the Books, Lion’s Club, dance, peer mentor program, church choir, and Shine Youth Group. Her awards include New York State School Music Association Award, and dance competition medals and trophies. She will attend Roberts Wesleyan College as an English major.

 Seth Griffith, son of Alan Griffith and Lynn Dunn, has been involved in Library Club, National Honor Society, and cross country. He will attend SUNY Oneonta as a biology major.

Sam Kirkpatrick, son of Shelley Kirkpatrick and Tim Kirkpatrick, has participated in basketball, soccer, band, peer mentor program, Student Council, National Honor Society, and has been class representative. He will attend the University of West Florida as a member of Army ROTC and major in electrical engineering.

Chelsea Koch, daughter of Robert and Colleen Koch, has been National Honor Society secretary, and involved with Nelliston Activities Youth Council, Early Headstart, Harmony, Manna House meals program, Fort Plain museum, chorus, all-county chorus, band, all-county band, and marching band. Her awards and honors include Women of Moose Mathematics Award, Greatest Contribution to Chorus, Oyaron Scholarship at Hartwick, Permanent Principal’s List award, NYSCOPBA Award, Stephen V. Bilins Science Award, and CTW Foundation Award. She is a member of Fort Plain Reformed Church. In the fall, Koch will attend Hartwick College as a biology major.

 Jack Photo of Jack RayRay, son of Barbara and Jack Ray, has been involved with SADD, National Honor Society, soccer, basketball, and baseball and he has been a class officer. His awards and honors include Superintendent’s Award, Jazz Band Award, and Senior Athlete of the Year. He has also been a summer recreation counselor. Ray will attend Rochester Institute of Technology to major in biomedical engineering.

 

 

  Photo of Brianna Shultis  Brianna Shultis, daughter of Maria and Dean Shultis, has been involved with National Honor Society, OK2XL, soccer, and has been a volunteer at New Visions. Her awards and honors include Academic All-Star, Principal’s List, 90+ average for four years, and WAC All-star. She will attend the University of Vermont as a biology major.
