attend workshops, meet with legislators
Senior Ashley Smith and Junior Tory
Stella represented Fort Plain Central School and Montgomery
County at the 2010 Youth Leadership Forum held Feb. 8 and
9 in the Legislative Office Building in Albany.
The forum is an
interactive
leadership and educational seminar offered to youth age 12 and
older and youth bureau personnel from across New York State. On
Feb. 8, about 200 youth and 50 youth bureau chaperones
listened to a motivational speaker and participate in interactive
educational workshops. The forum’s goals are for participants to
learn more about state government, build leadership skills,
encourage community service, and network with youth from across
New York state.
On Feb. 9, Stella, Smith, and Carly
Douglass and Hylee Blowers from Fonda-Fultonville Central School
met with State Senator Hugh Farley and Assemblyman George Amadore to discuss youth programs in Montgomery County and the
impact the proposed state budget may have on youth development/
prevention services and programs in the county and in the state.
The forum is sponsored by
The Association of NYS Youth Bureaus; NYS Partnership for
Children, Youth, and Families; state elected officials; and
local organizations including Montgomery County Stop-DWI. Brenda
Rava, Montgomery County Youth Bureau youth services specialist,
accompanied the students.
