Senior Nolan Reese
and his English teacher, Mary McCall, represented their school
in the 2011 Capital Area School Development Association
Scholars' Recognition Program event.
The Scholars' Recognition Program
honors outstanding scholastic achievement by members of the
graduating classes of the public, private, parochial and BOCES
secondary schools in a ten-county area. High schools select
students to recognize their scholarship, leadership, and service
to their schools and communities. After these student scholars
are chosen, they are asked to nominate a teacher who has
influenced their lives in a significant way. Each student writes
a statement explaining how that teacher has made a difference to
him or her. Reese selected McCall for this honor.
“Mrs. McCall always has kind words to
say and has great knowledge of the student body. She makes
College English an enjoyable class,” Reese said.
“Nolan is one of the
finest students I’ve worked with during my career. He’s
motivated and dedicated, thinks deeply, and has a great sense of
humor,” said McCall.
Reese and McCall attended the Scholars' Recognition Program
honors dinner at the Desmond Hotel and Conference Center,
Albany, on May 11.
Nolan, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Reese, is class president, band president,
Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council president; and
president of Students Against Destructive Decisions. He has also
been active in Varsity Golf, Varsity Bowling, and the Peer
Mentor Program and is student representative to the Board of
Education. In the fall, he plans to attend Cornell to major in
human biology, health and society.
