Harry Hoag students raise
$3,105 for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital during
A total of 63 students in grades 1-6 at Harry Hoag Elementary
School raised $3,105 for the St. Jude’s Children’s Research
Hospital during a recent math-a-thon program. Since 1990, Fort
Plain students have raised $90,026.
The goal of the event is to raise funds to donate to the hospital.

According to St. Jude’s, the goal of the program is to teach
students the importance of helping others while improving core math
skills. And that’s why fifth grade teacher and math-a-thon
coordinator Kim Lathers wanted students to participate.
“I wanted kids to realize there are a lot of less fortunate kids
out there stricken with life-threatening diseases,” he said. “This
hospital helps people who don’t have money, and I wanted our
students to know they can help out.”
