Fort Plain Principal received SLS Administrator of the Year Award

Administrator of the yearFort Plain Jr./Sr. High School Principal Deborah Larrabee was one of two area educators who, along with a school media specialist, were honored at the HFM BOCES 24th Annual School Library System Awards luncheon on Tuesday, May 17, 2016.

Mrs. Larrabee received the SLS Administrator of the Year Award which is given to school administrators who exhibit leadership in recognizing the library media center as an integral part of the total school program and has an active personal involvement in the program. Fort Plain Central School District Media Specialist Mary VanPatten nominated Mrs. Larrabee for the award.

“Ms. Larrabee deserves to be the HFM BOCES SLS Administrator of the Year because of her support for full-time librarians in schools,” VanPatten said. “It is because of her that Fort Plain reinstated the elementary librarian position. She knows the importance of having a full-time librarian in schools, and how having a full-time librarian will improve student learning.”

"Congratulations to Mrs. Larrabee. The recognition of her strong support of libraries is well-deserved," said FPCSD Superintendent David Ziskin.

HFM BOCES Culinary Arts students prepared and served the luncheon to celebrate the honorees in their Petit Café. Jennifer Donovan, a representative from New York State Senator Hugh T. Farley's Johnstown office, shared a letter of commendation and presented certificates from the Senator and Assemblyman Marc Butler to the award recipients.

“As the chair of the State Select Committee on Libraries, Senator Farley recognizes that by supporting libraries we are supporting students in every aspect of their educational lives,” Donovan read from the commendation.

HFM BOCES District Superintendent Dr. Patrick Michel thanked everyone who attended the luncheon for their strong support of library services. “We all appreciate your commitment and devotion to our children, and encourage you in the important work you do,” Michel said.
