Fort Plain receives $1,000 Stewart’s grant for fitness center
District has received 11 grants since 2012

 Stewart’s recently awarded the Fort Plain Central School District with a holiday match grant of $1,000 for the fitness center located the Fort Plain Jr./Sr. High School. Stewart’s has collected and matched donations in its shops from Thanksgiving until Christmas since 1986.

Media groups who helped spread the word include Time Warner Cable News, Froggy 100.3, WIBX 950 a.m., Big Frog 104 and Lite 98.7.

The fitness center at the Jr. /Sr. High School is open from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on school days. Membership is $20 a month for all residents. The fitness center was opened as part of the district’s recent capital project and features circuit training equipment, free weights, cardiovascular equipment and training.

Since March 2012, Fort Plain has received 11 grants totaling $123,450. They include the following:
• March 2012 -- $250 Stewart’s grant for fitness center
• Spring 2012 -- $10,000 Verizon grant for virtual fieldtrips
• Spring 2012 - $2,000 Target grant for Harry Hoag visits from Erie Canal singer
• January 2013 - $2,000 Lowe’s grant for Garden for Life! (Life Skills Class)
• Spring 2013 - $700 Stewart’s grant for fitness center
• Summer 2013 -- $2,000 Target grant for residency by singer Dave Ruch
• Summer 2013 - $1,000 Walmart grant for Cooking for Life! (Life Skills Class)
• Summer 2013 -- $2,000 Target grant for elementary reading program
• Fall 2013 -- $2,500 Walmart grant for Interviewing for Life! (Life Skills Class)
• January 2014 -- $100,000 NYSED Strengthening Teacher/Leader Effectiveness grant
• March 2014 -- $1,000 Stewart’s grant for fitness center
