Adopt an Angel campaign kicks off in Fort Plain
Fort Plain Jr./Sr. High School math
teacher Deborah Waner fondly remembers the smile on her son Jordan’s
face when he went to Disney World in Florida after the Make-A-Wish
Foundation of Northeast New York granted his wish.
“It was wonderful. We got three days at
Disney, two at Universal Studios and one at SeaWorld,” she said. “He
didn’t stop smiling for three days.”
Mrs. Waner said that when the foundation
granted Jordan’s wish, she asked what she could do to give back.
That is why she and the rest of the faculty
and staff in the district started selling Make-A-Wish paper angels
to help grant the wishes of more children with life-threatening
medical conditions.
This year, the angels are $1 for students and
$3 for adults and are available at the kiosks in both schools and in
Mrs. Waner’s room. Make-A-Wish set a goal of $1,000,000 this year to
grant about 100 children’s wishes.
Mrs. Waner proudly displays a picture of
Jordan with “Lightning McQueen,” a character from the movie “Cars,”
and says she hops more children can feel the same joy as her son.
“It’s a great cause that helps a lot of
people,” she added.
Angels are also available every First Niagara
Bank branch, the Aviation Mall, Colonie Center, Crossgates Mall,
Rotterdam Square and Wilton Mall.
